Any one who is single these days has not only a wealth of options laid out before them, but they have complete and utter control of when and how they take advantage of all of these amazing resources.
Single people used to be looked down upon, felt sorry for and sometimes even made fun of. Single women who never married were referred to as spinsters or old maids, and it was generally thought that there must just be something horribly wrong with them since it appeared that there was not a man who wanted them. People who were divorced also tended to get a bum rap for being immoral, unethical or terrible people. Even if a divorce was an inevitable conclusion of a potentially dangerous or life threatening situation, people were unforgiving of a woman who was divorced, and assumed that she was cheap, adulterous, easy, a hag or a nag. A divorced man fared well in the estimation of society, but still had a little bit of a hard time as no decent woman had been raised to want to accept being someones’ second spouse. Times were hard, and dating was harder.
Well today there is no stigma whatsoever attached to being a single person. Many people have never married because they were too busy with their careers, many divorced the wrong person to go on, and many just like being single and keeping their dating and sexual options open to a lot of possibilities. Single certainly has a new face in 2011, and it is looking pretty good.
